Sleeper FILSD CROIXNOIRE wakes up in the Derby

SEPTEMBER 1, 2009 - RETAMA PARK - Jockey Eguard Tejera made it 2 for 2 on this Texas stakes night for Arabians, when he expertly maneuvered the underrated Filsd Croixnoire to a driving finish for victory in the Texas Arabian Derby. Fans expected Filsd Croixnoire to arrive somewhere in the back of the field and did not place much confidence on this 4 year old bay colt, but he had a great start and held to it. He ran on the lead at the rail being challenged by Mark Of Valor and the favorite Qjuick Sand PW on the outside, and they ran 3 abreast for almost a half mile. Then it became a two horse race for Filsd Croixnoire and Qjuick Sand PW at the middle of final turn as they pulled ahead and ran stride for stride as one. Top of the lane they brushed sides and Filsd Croixnoire rose above it and sped ahead for the drive. The race was 1 1/16 mile and he won by 3 3/4 lengths in a time of 1:58.52.

Qjuick Sand PW clearly took second, followed by Chasing Roses third and Clunk fourth. Golly Bret, Topule, Mark Of Valor and Sand De Wind finished up the field.

Filsd Croixnoire is trained by Juan Ascencio and owned by Mark Vasquez. He was bred by Guy Neivens, and is by the stallion Ala Croixnoire, a son of Tidjani who was imported to the USA for stud after finishing a 4 win race career in France and Oman. He sired numerous winners including 3 Darley Champions in USA. Filsd Croixnoire is the first foal and the only foal of racing age out of the mare Sarha by Racing Hall of Fame stallion T C Tomtyr. This race is the second lifetime win for Filsd Croixnoire out of his 13 starts; he also has finished second four times, and twice third. His earnings are now $19,131.

BURNIE GEE PW annihilates field, wins by 14 1/4 lengths

SEPTEMBER 1, 2009 - RETAMA PARK - Burnie Gee PW annihilated the field of 7 fillies in the Texas Arabian Oaks to win by 14 1/4 lengths. She ran a clever race, reserved off the pace and then drawing clear leaving the quarter pole. The number 2 horse Lori Anne had been fractious in the starting gate and but broke well and got to task, right up in the hunt with Caitsablazing who took the early lead. Ooh Lay La came rushing in at the rail to challenge and took the lead for a bit only to tire. Lori Anne was very clear for second place by 11 1/2 lengths. Ooh Ley La ran 3rd, with one of the favorites Black Beaches never offering the contest expected and settling for 4th. Amazing Finish SWA, Caitsablazing, and Finally Sue completed the field.

Burnie Gee PW crossed the finish line in a respectable time of 1:50.84 for this one mile challenge for 4 year old fillies, it was a very sloppy track with heavy rains just passing over the San Antonio, Texas area. The track record is 1:50.2 and was set In 1998 by AF Sir Vivor, an 8 year old stallion.

Burnie Gee PW is a daughter of USA's leading Arabian racing sire, Burning Sand, with progeny earnings over $3.7 million. She is out of the mare Bygosh Bygolly, by the stallion By Golly- IAHA Race Horse of the Year, Racing Hall Of Fame Stallion and mutliple track record setter. The 2 time winning mare Bygosh Bygolly is also dam of stakes winners Djolly Good ($85,070) by Djendel, and Toute De Suite ($62,176) by Ala Croixnoire.

Eguard Tejera piloted Burnie Gee PW to the win for trainer Jennifer Bramblett and owner Leah Killingsworth Bates. Bates acquired the chestnut filly in a claiming race just weeks ago on the 18th of August at Delaware Park. Burnie Gee PW was previously owned by her breeder, Pamela Weidel. This win brings Burnie Gee PW's record to 5 wins and 1 second of 10 starts, including 2 stakes wins and one stakes placing, and earnings of $62,972 USD.
