1-5 FAVORITE BURNING FANCY WINS
MANDOLYNN HILL FARM / ARC STAKES  FILLY & MARE DIVISION  (G3)

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Friday, Nov. 20, 2009) – Odds-on favorite Burning Fancy at 1-5, who is owned by Marvin Powell and trained by Jerry Partin, didn’t disappoint in winning the 2nd Running of the ARC-, $19,5000 Mandolynn Hill Farm Stakes for Arabian fillies and mares, three-years-old and up, by 13 ¾ lengths over a sloppy track at Lone Star Park on Friday evening.


Ridden by jockey Kelsi Purcell, the gray daughter of Burning Sand took the lead right out of the gate and never looked back in setting fractions of 25.19 and 50.61 before stopping the timer for the seven furlongs at 131:98.


After being chased down the backstretch by Ooh Lay La, Burning Sand opened up by about five lengths entering the turn and extended that margin to 10 lengths by the time she turned for home.


With the win, Burning Fancy improved her record to five wins, with two seconds, from seven starts and increased her lifetime earnings to $41,540 with the $11,700 winner’s share. Jessys Princess finished second and it was another length back to Chays Zell MKP in third.


Burning Fancy paid $2.60, $2.10, $2.10, Jessys Princess returned $2.40 and $2.10, and Chays Zell MKP paid $6.40 for show. Ooh Lay La, WMA Sugar N Spice, MW Bonnie Z, and Get Her Done completed the order of finish. Djenteel and Lori Anne were scratched.



SO BIG IS BETTER IS BEST IN MANDOLYNN HILL FARM/ARC STAKES ( COLTS AND GELDING DIVISION ON RAINY FRIDAY NIGHT (G3)

PRAIRIE, Texas (Friday, Nov. 20, 2009) – Warren Shelley’s So Big is Better, trained by Helen Shelley, made a bold move to take the lead turning for home then held off the late challenge of Frynge Benefit to win the 3rd Running of the ARC- Mandolynn Hill Farm Stakes for Arabian colts and geldings, three-years-old and up, over a sloppy track on Friday night at Lone Star Park.


Ridden by Roxane Losey, So Big is Better, the 3-5 favorite in the wagering, sat in mid pack on the backstretch behind opening fractions of 24.53 and 50.09 then saved ground along the rail on the final turn before coming off the fence to pass tiring leader Qjuick Sand PW at the top of the stretch.


The five-year-old son of Burning Sand had to fight off the challenge along the rail of second-place finisher Frynge Benefit, who finished just ¾ of a length behind the winner.


Cromwell finished third, another 2 ½ lengths back. The final time for the seven-furlong race was 1:33.00.

With the winner’s share of $11,700, So Big is Better surpassed the $100,000 mark to $111,252 in lifetime earnings and improved his career record to 22-10-4-0.


So Big is Better paid $3.40, $2.20 and $2.10, Frynge Benefit returned $4.80, $4.00 and Crowmell paid $5.60 for show. Le Fromage, Moulin Rouge MAF, Qjuick Sand PW, Ala Bout Me, Sizedoesntmatter, Bush Hog, By Golly Sand, Auroras Rainbow, Golly Bret, and Buddy of Mine completed the order of finish. Status Symboll was scratched.

This race was the 4th of the evening. Due to the inclement weather, Races 5 through 9 were cancelled.
